I thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit to KIDS ON STAGE, the youth section of Walkerville Musical Society, for their annual show (staged on All Hallows Day) – ‘Who’s Your Mummy’. A show I have never seen before; one of the Schools Musicals Company series.
Equally gratifying is the emergence of the Community Theatre following some recent improvements and developments to the building by this group. Well done to Alan and the whole team, your efforts have not gone unnoticed and are more than welcome.
The continued support given by the parent organisation to these children is wonderful to witness; and I’m sure will pay dividends in the future. Succession is extremely important. The future looks secure here. Long may it continue.
A packed audience saw a colourful, vibrant production. Well conceived and directed by Joan Fothergill, ably assisted by John Casson and James Archer, with excellent accompaniment for the performance by Peter Allsopp, whilst Gareth Miller MD’d at rehearsals.
It was interesting to see a lot of new faces on stage for this show, with a cast of 28 of all ages. They certainly deserve our praise, following the 'lead' of the 'old hands', and maybe also deserve more than just one performance; although that perhaps is down to availability of the venue. It would be wrong of me to single out individual praise for anyone in the cast. But be assured you are all worthy of mention. Well done!.
The story revolves around a Pharaoh who falls in love with a girl called Nafrini. His mother, not being in favour of their association, decides to poison Nafrini. But Pharaoh Kafele decides to wed her, even in death.
Some 2,500 years later, in the British Museum, a school trip witnesses two mummies come back to life!. They humourously attach themselves to the children’s group, eager for their help in evading Inspector Bucket and Sergeant Spade who are intent on arresting the ‘Mummy smugglers’.
Joan and the rest of the Team should be more than happy with their combined efforts. Special praise must go to young Jonah Nugent for his brilliant scenic design and painting. Congratulations to the stage crew and Alan Ranson, to Joan, Christine, Caroline and Susan for cracking costumes, Nick and Ken for colourful lighting and sound, and to Faith, Jazmin, Lucy and Kaylee for the choreography, and to all involved in a super show.
Also, many congratulations for raising over £300 for Children In Need.
Thanks for the invitation and to Anne for the hospitality, I enjoyed my visit. We look forward to your next production.
