Who Killed the Vicar by Chris Martin is a thrilling whodunnit play set in the Vicarage of St. Ignatius the Unflappable, in the picturesque village of Steeply Willows.
Director Magaret Soares has a great cast for this play. The actors had their scripts with them which added to the murder play as they had to get all the information out.
The play takes part in three acts, the first setting the scene to include the murder of Reverend Martin Peacock played by Chris Murray, he seems to have been spending the church restoration funds on a new sports car and losing interest in the sleepy village while waiting for the Bishop to retire so he can take his place. He has also started to upset the Parish Council, and they have called a meeting to finalise arrangements for the up-and-coming prestigious summer fete.
John Petroff takes the role of the Narrator, setting the scene introducing the characters in turn.
Gladys Sunday is the Housekeeper played superbly by Margaret Soares, lovingly offering her cups of tea, but is being put upon by the Vicar.
Brenda Buffton is every part the village busy body and the best cake maker despite the Vicar giving her 2nd place in last years fete.
Lincoln Green played by Peter Cutler is every part the Scout Master.
Roy Chimes after having a work accident became the church organist played by Peter Cutler, he needed a new organ for the church but again no money.
Tobias Byrne the curate was played by Alex Yarwood the Vicar in waiting, he was getting cross as he wasn't being allowed to do his job to his full potential.
Penny Lane the lost rambler played by Claire Collins came into the story towards the end of Act One.
We are shown the murder with the help of the Narrator. Interval time and there are 'who done it' question forms to fill in with your table team mates, trying to work out who the murder or murders are. This was good fun.
Act Two brings in Detective-Inspector Charlton played by Sara Yarwood who seems to work things out but realise or the input from her colleague Lilly Heeks played by Lydia Clough. They both have some great lines between them.
During the next break we have to try and work out who the murderer/murderers are.
The play continues and we find out the ending. Costumes just right as were sound and lighting. A great night's entertainment. Well done to you all.
