Who killed the secret agent?  by Chris Martin is a spy spoof whodunnit set in the world of secret documents, poison jelly babies and a brief case full of devices and gadgets.    There then followed an evening of hilarity as Marcus Moult-Lightly was murdered and a string of suspects lined up.

The set was well built and decorated and a convincing representation of an old-fashioned Government office. Good use of props.

A great deal of trouble had gone into ensuring each character’s costume was in keeping with the period, some more successfully than others.

The lighting was effective and well controlled, especially during the “power cut”.

The essential characterisation of each cast member was well developed and each character maintained their persona throughout. In the first act the narrator introduces us to the characters and we are alerted as to possible clues, red herrings and also encouraged to wave Union jack flags and shout “007” whenever we heard the name of a Bond film or song. This added enormously to the enjoyment of the evening and occasionally gave it a panto feel. The audience was invited to take part in a quiz and guess who the murderer(s) were. Special praise to Alan Birdsworth stepping in at the last minute as “P” (Head of MIJ - Ministry of International Justice) akin to “M” in the Bond films.  He did a fantastic job. Thanks to the talented and hard-working team, led by Director Lesley Nicholls, the audience enjoyed an evening of surprises, a lot of laughs and some lovely fish and chips.
