The storyline of this show is well known to all after the success of the film starring, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney. It is very difficult for performers to portray the characters in this film as the audience have in their minds the marvellous performances given by the original stars that we are submitted to every Christmas on one, two, even three of the many TV channels that we have. But on this occasion the members of APOS rose to the occasion and gave us a performance not to be forgotten.

The main parts of Bob and Phil were played to perfection by Colin McDonald and Adam Dawson and opposite them playing Betty and Judy, the Haines sisters, played by Sharon McDonald and Pauline Ferguson were gave us performances that they should both be very proud of. Olive Lindsay, playing the part of Martha Watson brought the comedy element of any show to the forefront with her singing and witty snide comments. The part of General Henry Waverly, of whom the story is about, was played by Andrew Miller who made us feel that he was a general and that all about him, apart from his niece Susan, were quite afraid of him.

With a large cast, the songs of the great Irving Berlin, some very creative dancing, a plethora of beautiful costumes, and some well painted backcloths we were whisked into a dream world that you only see on the silver screen. APOS gave us performance that we should all remember for a long time. The singing was in my opinion of a very high standard and the characterisations had all been thought out by the performers which gave us a sparkling show.

The few touches that the production team gave us throughout the night added to the magic, especially the snow for the finale. Congratulations to one and all. It was pleasing in this day and age to hear that ticket sales had been excellent and full houses had been achieved at most performance.

Hard work by all whether they were principal or chorus, orchestra or stagehand. And thanks you for the invitation to join you all having a “Merry White Christmas”

PS: It made up for the torrential rain outside the theatre.
