As always the company took great care with the setting, furniture and props. The costumes, and particularly the ladies' hairstyles were splendid, and the accessories just right.
The company were all very well cast, particularly the three married couples on which the story rely. Strong outstanding performances from them all; Peter Harrison and Angela Swift as the Helliwells, with Trevor Chambers and Patricia Church as the Parkers and David Jones and Liz Woolley as the Soppitts. All six performed superbly, maintaining their Yorkshire accents throughout, and responding to each other quite beautifully. They brought out each individual`s character particularly well, and were a pleasure to watch.
Excellent back-up performances by Graham Swift, as the drunken Henry Ormonroyd, and Regina Repton as Lottie Grady, Alderman Helliwell`s naughty secret. I must also mention Catherine Baker as Ruby Birtle the maid, and Jenni Padley as Mrs Northrop, both very effective in their roles. Playing Gerald Forbes, the bringer of bad tidings, Matt Grundy was convincing, with Jade Brookes playing his love interest Nancy Holmes.
J B Priestley`s masterpiece still retains its freshness and humour today.
The whole company deserve great plaudits for a most memorable evening`s entertainment. Superb.
