What a gem of a period comedy this J.B. Priestley play s! It has been so long since I have seen a production I had quite forgotten what charm it holds.   Three couples celebrating their silver wedding anniversaries discover to their great consternation that their marriages are in all possibility not legal. Having risen to performance in local society from humble beginnings each couple ca see social disaster looming. The immediate mayhem, which ensues, is accompanied by others who have their own agenda’s to pursue. So the comedy element is sustained throughout the piece involving all the players. But as it is a comedy all’s well that ends well.   I thought that Teresa had chosen her cast really well. Everyone gave a good representation of their character which resulted in an extremely well rounded performance. A good pace was maintained throughout which showed the director’s firm guidance. Each character was extremely believable.   The set representing a lounge of the early 1900’s was excellent and the lighting suited the era too. I particularly enjoyed the brass band music which helped to set the action very firmly in the north of England. Minor criticisms would be that the ladies eye make-up came across as a little elaborate in a small theatre and a couple of the costumes seemed a little on the oung side fr their characters.   However overall it was an extremely good production which I enjoyed enormously. Well done to everyone involved.
