This was a piece of magical theatre of a professional magnitude I’ve ever seen by a youth group. The open stage set the scene for this piece to unfold in all its Bernstein’s and Sondheim’s glory. The dimly lit stage and orchestration under the baton of Anthony Quimly was spine chilling (the music throughout was magnificent) when Jets and Sharks met in one of the many face offs. The leads took the show to an unprecedented level with Tony (Nick Gartland) leading the charge, here stood a young man with the confidence of a seasoned pro what a performance for your tender years, you showed every emotion with sincere conviction especially with your leading lady Maria (Phoebe Williams) here again the voice and acting and portrayal of this character was brilliant to say the least. The lead Sharks led by Bernardo and his leading lady Anita were excellent, really enjoyed the duet with Maria and Anita a difficult sing but so well executed well done. There were some very strong characters on either side Riff (Daniel Richter), Action (Garion Frith), all excellent. Their supporting gangs of Jets and Sharks all individually strong, the young ladies of both gangs equally as strong, especially Rosalia (Amy Dewsnip) in America you danced and taunted Anita in this number with so much belief and comedy. The beautiful song Somewhere (Emily Kerrigan) a rendition I will remember for a long time well done.
I have to say well done Anthony, the way you’ve left your mark on this show is so memorable not least in the big company number Tonight
The scene changes throughout were unbelievably slick due to the choreography and the way the Director used the actors either through dance or manipulation to the fullest effect a joy to watch as was the way in which Lizy teased out of the entire company their true potential. The movement and dancing particularly in the fight scenes was effective to achieve the best from each individual character
Everything about this show was professional well done to you all
Many thanks for the hospitality shown to me on the night and good luck for the future to all those leaving this year
