We were all welcomed into a reception room and offered drinks for this a murder mystery evening. The room had been decked out with the photographer taking pictures of us the guests against a lovely flower wall backdrop complete with balloons and a table with wrapped gifts and post box. In the main hall the stage was set with the wedding top table and had also been well decorated with fairy lights and bay trees in large pots. A lot of thought had gone into creating just the right atmosphere, right down to every last little detail, transporting us into a wedding reception. The cast in their wedding costumes all looked excellent. The bride with her beautiful dress and bouquet, along with her bridesmaids, the groomsmen with their buttonholes and both mothers in their glamorous gowns.
As we were ushered into the hall, the bridal party were all lined up to welcome us before taking their places on stage. We see the bridal party sipping their drinks as we tried to catch snippets of their conversations. Very unfortunately at this point the rain outside was so heavy on the roof of the hall it was almost impossible to hear much of the dialogue. The cast took their seats at the top table and the groom’s father started his speech. Not the normal wedding speech as he was determined to make slanderous comments about all the wedding party much to their disgust. He then promptly keeled over and was pronounced dead. The CSI team entered the hall with one holding a blue flashing light and both dressed in their white overalls. A nice touch! They proceeded to dust the corpse for evidence and take samples which they gave to the DCI policeman. It seemed the whole party had a motive and they were all interrogated and certainly kept them on their toes with his cross questioning.
This was a murder mystery in which we the audience participated to find the motives and guess as to whom we thought might have been responsible for the death. We were asked to write down some questions the policeman could put to the wedding party and in the denouement he clarified the facts and the murderer was revealed.
It was obvious the entire cast enjoyed themselves enormously and had taken great joy in entertaining their appreciative sell-out audience. They maintained their characters well, and there were some good performances by this small cast of just twelve.
The audience certainly entered into the spirit of things having been invited to dress as wedding guests and all looked splendid in their wedding finery. We all enjoyed a very good wedding buffet and got thoroughly involved with completing our “whodunit” forms, before the winning table was announced.
The raffle was in aid of the St Elizabeth’s Hospice and I was told this had been very successful in the amount raised. Well done to all the cast and team for the work involved in putting on this production and for giving all your audience a very entertaining evening. Thank you for our warm welcome.
