Brining to life We Will Rock You and the iconic music of Queen is no easy task, but it is one that LADAMA was determined to do and they certainly rose to the challenge.
It was clear from the very first notes from the band that they were going to provide the perfect rock background to the plethora of well know songs. Always rocking but never overpowering it was clear, given their prominent position on the stage, they were having just as much fun as the cast recreating the iconic Queen sound.
In the role of Galileo, Tony Livingston, had clearly worked hard to capture the nuisances of the role delivering a commanding performance with great awareness and a voice ideally suited to the demands of the role. Up against him Ann-Marie Miller as Scaramouche was ideally matched with a great stage presence, perfect comedy timing and a voice that was a pleasure to listen to. Together they made a perfect partnership sparking off each other and with voices blending nicely.
In the larger-than-life role of Killer Queen, Emily-Jane Lister commanded the stage and the role bringing great energy and the perfect amount of sass to the character and delivering her numbers with commitment and drive as she tried to overcome the Bohemians. As her commander Graeme Melvin brought style, sophistication and wit to the role as he tried to play his part in the rebel’s downfall.
As the three main Bohemians Andy Duncan as Brit, Laura Campbell as Oz and Murray Pope as Buddy all brought their own individuality to their roles. All had a clear understanding of their characters, had great stage presence and voices well suited to their roles delivering strong engaging performances.
As Gaga Girls, Bohemians, Yuppies etc. the ensemble play a vital role in the success of this show. Each person onstage in whatever role committed to it bringing a real energy to the production. Their singing was strong with harmonies that shone through loud and clear.
Choreography was fresh, slick and appropriate to each song, costumes added to the overall visual spectacle and the well thought out direction and video wall helped the show to move along at a good pace.
It was clear that LADAMA and the production team had ‘One Vision’ for this show and they certainly achieved that. Congratulations to all on stage and behind the scenes for a most enjoyable evening – you all rocked!
