Set in a dystopian future, "We Will Rock You" tells a tale of rebellion against the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation - a corporation whose sole aim seems to be suppression of music and individuality in all its forms. From a personal point of view, I always felt that the story was very much a loose homage to the Rush album, 2112.

This story follows Galileo and Scaramouche as they join a group of Bohemians in a quest to restore rock 'n' roll in a world where it has long since been forgotten - all set to the music of chart toppers Queen.

Charlie Dingle played Galileo with an endearing mix of awkwardness and passion (a far cry from playing a laid back duck).

Scaramouche, his counterpart, played by Evie Muir was portrayed with a fiery spirit and commendable vocal prowess, making her an instant favourite amongst the audience members, with her sense of timing and wit shining throughout. Charlie and Evie bounced off each other well as they drove the story`s narrative on.

Mya Tomlinson played the power crazy boss of Globalsoft, Killer Queen in the ruthless manner the character demanded, with Arman Sidhu relishing playing her sidekick, Khashoggi .

Brit and Buddy (played well by Ethan Shimwell and Hollea Taylor) added to the story with their quirky characterisations.

One of the performances of the day (for me) was Abi Jones as Oz, almost threatening to steal the show with her performance - captivating the audience with her voice.

Adding to the mix, we had the Bohemians, Bots, Gaga Students and Bohemians- all well drilled and en pointe throughout the show. The junior cast of Morecambe Youth Theatre brought an energetic and enthusiastic interpretation to the characters, whether lead or chorus.

The staging was imaginative, transforming the limited space of the stage into a vibrant, futuristic landscape. Creative use of props and minimalistic set allowed for swift scene transitions, keeping the pace lively. If I had a slight niggle, it would be the balance of sound at the venue - on the odd occasion overpowering the singers.

The choreography was a standout feature, it was evident that the young performers have been well-rehearsed, displaying synchrony and enthusiasm in every number.

Musically, the production shone - its young performers confidently tackling Queen's iconic soundtrack and bringing the classic hits to life, no mean feat when you consider that the audience know the songs as much as the cast do. Claire Allcock must have been happy with what they achieved.

Director and choreographer, Sophie Jade Butler cleverly balanced the dramatic and comedic elements, ensuring that the story remained engaging and accessible to all.

Morecambe Youth Theatre`s production of "We Will Rock You" at The Duke's Theatre was a delightful and spirited rendition that truly captured the essence of the musical. Whilst the vocal abilities varied across the cast, the overall performance was commendable, especially considering the age of the performers.

All in all, this production was a testament to the talent and dedication of the Morecambe Youth Theatre cast and creative team. Well done, MY Theatre, and thank you for the invite.
