A cast of 76 young people lit up the stage with a most varied selection of well-chosen musical numbers all with a magical theme. Some of the numbers were familiar to me while others were not, so it was most refreshing to hear something new.

Although 30 of these youngsters had never set foot on a stage before, there was little sign of nerves but instead a confident group of young people who had undoubtedly worked very hard to produce such an entertaining, delightful concert and were undoubtedly having great fun. All of the company numbers were slick with disciplined choreography and rarely a foot or arm out of sync. Solo performances were all extremely well delivered and it is so encouraging to see such a wealth of young talent given the opportunity to shine. Not only could they sing well but the ballet, tap and other dance routines were beautifully performed.

The younger cast members were quite charming in ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ and the most lively ‘Disney Melody’ which opened Act 2 where they sang and moved most positively. ‘Noble Maiden Fair’ performed by a young lady playing the harp as she sang in Gaelic while another did a most stunning highland dance was quite captivating.

There were so many fabulous performances that it is impossible to mention each one individually. ‘I Thought I Heard A Voice’, ‘Pulled’ ‘If I Can Love Her’ and ‘Fight The Dragon’ were particularly memorable while ‘Rise Up’ was so powerfully sung by the young soloist and Older Company. ‘Powerful Magic’ too was most impressive.

The big company numbers were dynamic and energetic both vocally and in the staging. ‘Magic-Pitch Perfect brought Act 1 to a rousing end. ‘Beautiful Dreamer’, the company’s signature number which sums up what they are all about was as always sung with passion with the harmonies and strength of the ensemble singing tremendous. The final ‘Could It Be Magic’ was rousing and brought this amazing concert to a most lively conclusion.

This was an evening of sheer joy and entertainment. Seeing the delight on the faces of these young people, listening to wonderful singing and watching animated dance and movement was an absolute pleasure. Lighting was adapted to suit the varying moods and brought everything to life.

The hard work and commitment by all of the cast and the production team resulted in a superb magical evening. Well done to all involve on and off stage.
