What a lovely happy enjoyable evening we had at the Mawdesley Amateur Dramatic Society’s Variety Show. With a mixture of comedy sketches, monologues, dancing and singing there was certainly an eclectic mix of entertainment on offer which included parodies of the television show “Absolutely Fabulous”, and the proverbial fitness phenomenon “Step Classes”, there was a monologue about Fifty Shades of Grey, we also found out that William Shakespeare was actually a woman and there was an excellent sketch featuring Dads Army, I was sure it was Captain Mainwaring, Corporal Jones and  Private Godfrey up there on the stage. We were treated to lovely solos and a duet from Musical Director Emma Meen and Libbie Cowburn accompanied by backing tracks and there was also an enjoyable very well performed tap dance routine, there was certainly something for everyone to enjoy. I would like to mention everybody else in the cast but would not like to miss anyone out. Just a small point some of the jokes were tailored to the local community so unfortunately may not have been understood by members of the audience who did not live locally. The evening was compered by Finlay Robertson who worked hard to keep everything in order and was very good at thinking on his feet especially when things went wrong making a joke and including the audience in the joke, but this should not be relied upon, this type of genre must be slick and kept at a good pace in order to keep the audience entertained. Diction and clarity of words were excellent and comic timing was spot on by everybody, all the cast worked as a team and appeared to be enjoying themselves immensely. There was just an open stage decorated with silver streamers and scenes were set by the use of props all brought on the stage by two stage crew who wore masks making them look very po-faced who were part of the entertainment which was very comical and helped Finlay to fill in between acts. Technical input was from Matthew Hutcheon Sound, and Paul Taylor Lighting. Overall this was a very enjoyable evening's entertainment and I look forward to your next Variety Show. Well done to Director Finlay Robertson   Producer, Irvin Wright and Musical Director Emma Meen for producing an entertaining evening, thank you very much for inviting us we had a lovely enjoyable time.
