A controversial subject brought to the Sir John Mills theatre by this talented Society, known for their unusual choices of productions.
Whilst the title may have been off-putting, being based on a true story with brilliant words and music, the cast really got behind this story of street characters in their dreadful dilemma affecting their lives. It was a true story set in America when there was a drought and water was at a premium. This unfortunately led to the either closing of the public toilets or charging a sum of money to use the facility.
The set was amazing, Dave Borthwick worked wonders far beyond the ‘call of duty’ to made this believable. The characters all played their parts with passion and special mention must be made of poor Little Sally brilliantly played by Bronte Fletcher saving her pennies to ‘go’. The romantic leads were excellently played by Wade Ablitt as Bobby Strong and Zoe Ransome as Hope Cladwell struggling to keep their love alive, despite the fact that Hope’s father was the head of the council making the laws. Martin Leigh played this part with panache.
Gallery brought this story to life with gusto and the many characters were all believable including two policemen and of course the toilet attendant Natasha Staffiere who sang a storm.
A very strong production team gave us a remarkable evening which was enjoyed by all.
