What a delightful evening I spent at Urine Town. For people who don’t know this show that may sound like a contradiction but this company nailed this show.

The story is a cautionary tale of misuse of the Earth’s resources and how big business profits from restrictions. It is narrated by Officer Lockstock (Graeme Baird) who although on the side of the company manages to inject humour and regret into his performance. He is joined by Little Sally (Emily Baird), she acts as his conscience throughout the show and was portrayed with great enthusiasm and style.

As expected a hero steps up to reverse the unfairness. Played by Roo Mathieson the character of Bobby Strong came to life, with a performance of strength and empathy we all joined his revolution. His love interest was The Bad Boss’s (Alan Matheson) daughter (Kirsty Davidson) who gave us the perfect example of ruthlessness against naivety, with lovely singing from both.

The good gang were well cast with strong performances from all. Old Man Strong (Fred Palmer), Billy Bob Bill (Lori McNaughton), Little Becky Two Shoes (Erin Nicoll), Hot Blades Harry (Millar Young), Tiny Tom (Adam McDonald), Soupy Sue (Sarah Phillips), Bobby the Stockfish (Anna Bergen) and Josephine Strong (Margaret Baer).

On the other side we have the Company men. Suitable greedy and manipulated by their boss we had Penelope Pennywise (Gill Matheson) who handled the plot twist expertly and we were all delighted when she changed sides. Staying with the company was Senator Fipp (Brian Mathieson), Mrs Millennium (Kerry Guthrie), Mr McQueen (Keith Cuthill), Dr Billeaux (Caroline Fenwick) and last but not least Officer Barrel (Ross Robertson) who as Officer Lockstock junior partner gave us a first class comic performance.

The cast were excellently supported by the ensemble. The singing was exceptional with many numbers outstanding. The simple effective set was used well to create the dirt and squalor of the setting and the story was enhanced by clever choreography. Lighting and sound were of a excellent standard and the whole production shone brightly.

As always hospitality was greatly appreciated and I was delighted to be able to award NODA badges for long service to company members. Well done to all!
