This was my first visit to this Society and I have to say that it was well worth the visit.
I loved watching Downton Abbey but this farce, conceived by Director Helen Halliday, in no way stained the memories I have of the series. It was quite outrageous with double entendres abounding worthy of a Carry On film, but it was most enjoyable.
The talented cast brought the whole thing off in style and were not nervous in engaging in some quite dubious activities! They all had names that defintiely fitted their characters and here are a few: Herbert Darling the Butler, Mr Skinner the Gamekeeper, the daughters of the Cox family - Lady Indigo, Lady Ophelia and Lady Allotta with Mrs Belcher the Cook and Ivor Biggun the Gardener and quite a few more!
The scenery was ideal and to have the cast sitting in view worked very well. The programme was well laid out and the costumes were excellent. All the rest of the work that goes on backstage must not be forgotten and Helen Halliday and all those involved should be very pleased with the outcome of this enjoyable romp.
