You can be sure that if Adele Ebbage has been involved as Director, Producer or Choreographer you are in for a real treat. This show was no different, it surpassed anything of their past compilation shows to reach a different level.
Unforgettable, Gone Too Soon paid tribute in song and dance to over 60 artists of whom I was surprised at the young age some of them were when they ‘left us’. I lost count of the number of musical numbers performed which flowed seamlessly from one to another. These tributes came with some incredible choreography, fantastic, powerful and sometimes emotional singing by both soloists and ensemble. Costumes were so appropriate for each and every number with most of the soloists dressed to represent the artist. The back projection was mesmerising in itself with pictures and video clips, that must have taken hours of research. Lighting by Harvey Ebbage was superb with just the right level to create atmosphere and spectacle where needed. How nice it was to see the incredible band on stage for the second act. MD Hatty Philips, I salute you for all you brought to this show. The large cast obviously enjoyed themselves and this spilled over into the capacity audience. I must admit some of my favourites of the evening were the tributes to Jim Henson, even with the Muppets making an appearance! and Victoria Wood’s ‘Acorn Antiques’ and ‘Dinner Ladies’, as well as her own ‘Let’s Do It’. There was such a poignant ending to the show with an empty stage and just a microphone and stand spotlighted.
A wonderful evening of emotion and nostalgia going back through the years and bringing us back to almost present day. This show highlighted what true artists we have lost over time. A truly magical evenings’ entertainment by an exceptional company.
