TRIVIAL PURSUITS
There was precious little to criticize in this most amusing production, performed on an excellent set. The play, set in the garden of a suburban home at a barbeque, pokes fun about the goings on within an amateur musical society when choosing and casting a show, all condensed into two hours of good entertainment.
There were good performances from all, and the momentum was maintained throughout. Teddy was superbly played by Rob Hodkinson, delivering an array of comedy lines with wonderful timing. Wendy Beric also showed first class timing as the wine loving Joyce, who thought she was perfect for every part. Paul Makinson, playing Nick the Director, who has to make everyone happy, and Jayne Brookes-Clayton as Roz his wife, both gave excellent performances. Marjorie Howarth as Mona, deviously scheming for her choice of musical, was well cast with another classy act. Playing Derek, Rick Law was absolutely wonderful as the `boring` guest bereft about his upcoming divorce. Claire Wade as his soon to be ex-wife Deidre, Jenny Cooper as Pearl, Emma Tocker-Booth as Jessica and John Freeman as Eddie, all completed a very good cast.
There was never a dull moment, and great credit must go to Richard Astle for a good production that brought out the humorous script.
