This is a well crafted pantomime based on the classic story. It has all the right ingredients such as quick fire one liners, corny jokes and over the top characters. Debbie Crump was an energetic and cheeky Jim Hawkins and she worked hard to elicit every response from the audience. She was well partnered by Rosie Coles (Trudi Trelawney) and together they made a good sound vocally. Greg Chapman managed to get plenty of boos as the evil Captain Flint and his opposite number Charlotte Gessey (Genie of the Gold) was a delight.Richard Pritchett (Blind Pew) was hilarious as was Dave Crump (Nellie Hawkins). The pirates were well led by the menacing one-legged Long John Silver (Meirion Buck) and I am sure he will never walk the same on two legs again after such a convincing portrayal. Alison Cahil (Billy Bones) effectively set the scene for all the action. Further comedy was provided by Bob Crump as the eccentric Ben Gun. There was also a giant parrot which turned into a penguin in the form of Martin Gainer. Some sanity was restored to proceedings by Trish Brookes (Dr Livesey) and Bob Fleming (Squire Trelawney).
The choreography was slickly executed by principals and chorus. There was a good choice of music and the singing was strong..
The costumes and set added to a most enjoyable show.
Well done!
