The pantomime season has arrived, and the energy, enthusiasm and verve shown by the cast of Treasure Island ensured it has got off on a high note.  Lucy Bramley as Jim Hawkins, and Lauren Radford as Felicity Trelawney were well cast as the hero and his girl, giving good performances.  Carol Leichssenring as Bill Brass, and Sam Hempsall as Nicky Knuckles certainly got the audience on board with their antics, supported by Barry  Smith as the Dame and Ron Murfin  the Squire.  The stand out performance came in the shape of Richard Kirkland`s Long John Silver.  A riotous performance and command of the stage,  played with tremendous energy.  Following closely were the Chorus and Dancers, whose verve helped keep the show moving at a good tempo.  The singing at the opening and in all their numbers was rousing, although it was lost a little by the volume of the band at the finale.  On the down side, some of the scenes with the principals at time lost their snap and the tempo slowed, but overall this pantomime was well received.  It is great to see the youngsters beginning to mature and that can only be good for the Players.

Good set and excellent costumes, together with an efficient band made for a sound,  well executed show.
