Drama Incorporated’s Treasure Island was a delightful pantomime with great performances from a talented cast of all ages. Jessica Greaves shone as Jim Hawkins, the hero of the story, bringing strong stage presence to the role and Caitie Hart gave a lovely performance as Lindsay Trelawney. Both Jessica and Caitie demonstrated impressive vocal talent.
Jodie Neary-Hilliard was a wonderfully entertaining Mrs. Hilda Hawkins, the panto dame and pub owner, delivering fun songs at The Admiral Benbow. Lesley Bright played Squire Trelawney falling for the beautiful singing voice of Mrs Hawkins.
The four pirates - Bobby (Eleanor Ives), Louie (Kelsey Gostelow), Stevie (Evie Quin), and Sonny (Grace Ellis) brought plenty of energy and humour, with Grace standing out with her strong vocals. Nigel Ellis was convincingly menacing as the villainous Long John Silver, complete with a wooden leg and authentic pirate accent. Helen Caudwell played the parrot Captain Flint the Third moving the pantomime along with her narrating.
Zoe Howard delivered a memorable, hilariously drunk Billy Bones and Jamie Armstrong appeared in the second half as Ben Gunn when they arrived on Treasure Island as the spa-owner. Other highlights included Katherine Adams as the Pirate King, Lily-Rose Cook as Pippin the Dog, Rory Warner-Eley as Shark, and Lillie-Rose Whelan as Skeleton. The “Discoverers” group of scouts (played by adults) gave an entertaining performance.
The chorus, made up of adults, teens, and younger children, all did a fantastic job with both singing and dancing. It was wonderful to see performers of all ages contributing to the show’s lively atmosphere.
Behind the scenes, the production team excelled. Elizabeth Holme-Cherry directed with flair, while musical direction by Jodie Neary-Hilliard, Grace Ellis, and Caitie Hart kept the songs polished. The choreography team - Jessica Greaves, Ruby Merrison, Holly Hammond, and Caitie Hart added fun movement throughout the Pantomime that was executed well by all. Set design was great by Zoe Hayward and wardrobe by Sharon Neary featured excellent costumes and fantastic wigs for the dame. The tech crew Claire Hart and Will Hart and backstage team Elizabeth Holme-Cherry ensured the show ran smoothly. Front of house added to the fun with snacks, pirate flags, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Overall, Drama Incorporated delivered an entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable Treasure Island. With strong performances and fun for all ages, it was a true celebration of community theatre.
