Treasure Island

An excellent time was had by all the audience and cast for Idle and Thackley’s matinee production of Treasure Island. Their theatre was full of friends, family and had a real sense of local community around it. Many of the audience who had come to support people they knew on stage. The show opened with a well-known number and these carried on throughout. The show was written and directed by Sara Temple who had made an excellent effort to write the story of Treasure Island and include all the usual panto jokes for younger members of the audience and double entendres for the older members. The set design was excellent, and the company made good use of the small stage they had to perform on with several scene changes. This was enhanced by the excellent lighting design. Simple and effective was the key especially the ghost dance scene which through clever costume staging and lighting proved very effective. Staging was well thought out and worked exceptionally well.

Sara Temple as director was assisted by Assistant Director Katie Burton who also both choreographed the show. In the programme it was clear that many of those on stage also worked backstage which showed a real good team effort which made the show such a success.

The cast were as follows Jez Oldfield as Dame Hettie, Nick Anderton as Long John Silver, Jordan Anderson as Jim Hawkins, Katie Burton as Tammy Trelawney, Damien Fisher as Captain Flint, Sara Temple as Dick, Alyson Boote as Ned, Martin Mitchell as the Squire, Sophie Clarke as Ben Gun and last but of no means least Bob Cochrane as Polly Parrott. The ensemble was made up of their junior section and were clearly having a great time being on stage.

The great thing about this society is they have a junior section which are also actively involved, and its members all take different key roles both on and off stage throughout the year to ensure that the local community has such a creative and inclusive hub which is accessible to all.

Thank you for inviting me and well done on a great show.
