First Panto of 2024 set a high standard for the rest to follow. This happy, fun production put a smile on everyone’s face. Well done to the production team of June, Carolyn and Audrey and the important back stage personnel who added the finishing touches. The choreography was slick and well-rehearsed, the junior chorus especially impressed me with their timing and style, thanks to the combined talents of Kim, Linzy, Eve, Jane and Susan.
The main principals all performed their roles admirably with great comic timing. The feisty Mrs Hawkins (David Cheape) and the spotted dick obsessed Squire Trelawney (George Doherty) opened the action with support from the love interest brave Jim Hawkins (Molly Perrott) and adventurous Jenny Trelawney (Olivia Robbie).
I liked the W.I. ladies - as characters they gave a different slant to this story which was refreshing. All gave caricature performances and made the nonsense even more fun. Take a bow Kim, Joanne, Rebecca, Eve, Linsey, Muriel and Linzy.
Every Panto has baddies and this bunch were hilarious. Long John Silver played so effectively by Grant Roach was partnered with a delightful Polly the parrot (Nikki Doig) We then had the sidekicks Seadog Sam and Seaweed Willy the comic sillies played with conviction by Andy Gilbride and Sam Ruddell. The pirate crew was completed by the grizzly named Gizzard Slitter, The Fridge and Blood Boiler (Dave Soutar, Aiden Gregory and Mike Burns) your mannerisms and antics made me laugh lads you all worked so well together.
Our final characters added the cherry on top of a delicious cake Ben Gunn (Evie Smith), Capt. Bloodheart (Dave Ross) and Kittie the Maid (Jaymie Roberts) Funny comic roles played with charm.
The ensemble were obviously enjoying all the antics and this gave this production its happy feel. As I have mentioned before the choreography in a restricted space was well thought out, singing was spot on and you all worked well together. Well done everyone this was my grandsons first Panto and he was laughing along and following all the action. Thank you for your hospitality. It was a great start to the festive period. Enjoy the rest of your run.
