Good script from Ben Crocker and lots of enthusiasm from the large cast of 30
Sets and costumes good for the visualswhich gave atmosphere to the whole performance.
A very large cast of pirates, the WI, and schoolchildren (full of energy) to fill the stage with enthusiasm and having a ‘big sing’, and then add the principals from the story of Treasure Island, all received to great applause and participation from the audience.
Lively goings-on in the pub run by Mum (Mrs Hawkins) from Scott Meacock with sea shanties to start off the proceedings, and then into pirates and the black spot and the familiar tale with treasure map and a proposed voyage. Jim Hawkins (Michelle Lake) ready for adventure and Jenny (Madeline Law) wanting to join in with him. Squire Trelawny from Larry Pendleton the owner of the ship and the recruitment of crew: Seadog Sam, Seaweed Willy, Billy Bones, Long John Silver, Blood Boiler, Gizzard Slitter, and The Fridge (Robin Baines, Derek Ayley, Matthew Grapes, Richard Didymus-Baines, Pam Facey, Lynette Foreman, and Robin Richardson) as the most colourful and unlikely sailors on this adventure, not to mention parrot Polly by Judi Ingram.
Somehow we got involved with the WI cake baking contest judged by the Squire and all those ladies (7) joined in with the fun and came on board along with the children (4) in a lively dialogue and song and reversal of who was in charge to see through the quest to find the treasure. Altogether a jolly romp throughout the evening and much enjoyed by the packed hall, always such good support for HATS.
