The programme for the evening was divided into two separate sections with the first half programme of Traditional songs and the second half Jazz Classics. An atmospheric opening number “The Eriskay Love Lilt” was beautifully sung by Mary Sinclair in darkness at the back of the hall and it was the standard bearer for the whole concert. Three songs from the choir “Greensleeves” ”Bold Grenadier” and “Keel Row” brought back memories and melodies of my younger days. Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) a solo by Jim Carter and “Eileen Oge, The Pride of Pertrovore” from Alan Savage were well sung. A duet by Steve Worley and Mary Sinclair with Steve accompanying on the guitar was lovely. Four more items from the choir including Deep River and Swing Low Sweet Chariot and the unknown (to me at least) Dafydd y Garag Wen, a delightful solo by Judith Standing brought the first half to an end. The second half was filled with wonderful numbers mainly from 1940’s and 50’s including seven items from the choir including such classics as ‘The Way You Look Tonight’, ‘Someone to Watch Over Me,’‘Fly Me to the Moon’ plus the humorous duet ‘Well Did You Evah’ from Mike Dernie and Musical Director Alastair Elliott”. Excellent solo’s from Ruth Hawksford, ‘Summertime’, Sharon Toy, ‘Skylark’and ‘Feeling Good’ from Caroline Worthington and a rousing ‘New York, New York’ by the choir brought a most enjoyable evening to the close. A nostalgic and well presented musical evening and the whole superbly accompanied by Angela Allard and Directed by Alastair Elliot.
