How time flies by, the Pantomime season is here once again, and St Matthew's Theatrical Society started it off with a good one. This was one the Society had not performed previously and also one I had never seen before. Tom Thumb had all the ingredients neccessary for an evening of fun and frivolity, playing to a capacity audience full of Scouts, Beavers and Cubs. The hall rang out with screams, cheers and laughter in all the right places.
There were some creditable portrayals from Tom Thumb (Ella Fitt) and his Princess Primrose (Ellie Smith) along with Tim Thumb (Bethany Ellis) a live wire providing us with lots of laughter, and Spellina (Molly Haynes) the pretty Fairy. Slug Slime (Daniel Brennan) gave an excellent portrayal of his evil wicked character.
The grown up characters like Mum Thumb, The Crone and the King, all played their roles well helping to add that little extra something.
I was a little disapointed in the choice of music, most of it was relatively unknown until the second act when three of the characters performed their interpretation of "The Twelve 'Yorkshire' Days of Christmas", that was brilliant, I was absolutely exhausted just watching them.
All the different scenes had lovely backcloths along with really good props, excellent lighting effects, and the thunder whenever the giant walked making the cast jump was very effective.
The beautiful costumes made by their own wardrobe were delightful, especially the sparkling finale, this years colours were pink and silver, and it was all finished off with falling snow. Well done everyone.
