This was a fine farce from the pens of Ray and Michael Cooney. Amazingly one of the leading performers, Seb Coombe, playing Tom had to be taken into hospital with appendicitis. The show must go on and amazingly, director Lexie stepped into the breach and she was quite brilliant. Although she carried a script, one would have thought she had been playing the part since the first rehearsal, she was superb.
This play had all the right farcical ingredients, characters falling from windows, numerous body parts, shady Albanian immigrants and a dodgy Albanian Mafia boss. One couldn’t go wrong. Dick and Harry were also superbly played by James Spark and Pauley Heron respectively, they were a brilliant foil for Tom. All the other parts were also very well played particularly, the two shady Albanians played by Caroline Robertson and Michael Spencer . There wasn’t a weak link in the whole company, and the plot moved along at a cracking pace.
The set and lighting were also good , in fact this was a very good all round production and was very much appreciated by an enthusiastic audience on the evening we attended.
All in all this was an excellent all round performance by the club, who should be well pleased with this very talented company, playing in their own lovely little theatre.
