The show book by Peter Stone, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, Titanic is a multi TONY Award winning show first performed in 1997, that said it is not the usual topic of Musicals.

Director James Freeman had the most challenging of tasks bringing this legendary Goliath of the sea to the Rep's stage, utilising the theatre's revolve giving different aspects of their well designed White Star Liner bridge and deck structure to view, which was very effective.

This was really a golden age for many, the show captures some of the feelings of expectation, it reflects the optimism of the time in the ingenuity of man and the age of potentially endless opportunity in the Americas, making all things seem possible. It was in this spirit Newcastle's excellent and versatile cast brought Titanic to the Stoke Rep stage.

Newcastle always but always, seem to perform with some of the best-prepared singers, their eight part harmonies were superlative and very well reproduced through the additional P.A. system drafted in for this performance, for a show of this magnitude it makes all the difference at The Rep, the sound reproduction was excellent.

Musical Director Allison Fisher's musicians brought a real small orchestral feel, (almost like the ships actual on board ensemble) to this almost operetta style musical. Costumes were good, some clever additions to the costumes worked well for different scenes.

This is a challenging show to stage and to watch, though the historic event of Titanic's maiden voyage was monumentally a folly of pride over circumspect, tragically resulting in fifteen hundred and seventeen souls perishing. This was a huge team effort to pull off such an epic show.
