Based on L. Frank Baum’s novel, The Wizard of Oz’ is legendary with unforgettable songs and familiar characters we have all grown up to know and love.  In her first principal role with the club Marianne Millard rose to the challenge of enacting the part of Dorothy Gale with such ease and perfection taking us from Kansas over the rainbow to Munchkinland on our journey to Oz.  As the Scarecrow, John Carr masterfully captured the character demonstrating his versatility as an actor. Gordon Watson was a perfect Tin Man and similarly was Colin Vincent as the Cowardly Lion.  Cathy Taylor skilfully characterised the frustrations and anger of the Wicked Witch of the West which contrasted extremely well against Emma Rodger’s portrayal of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, in providing assurance, hope and sparkle.  Roland Russell was also well cast as the Wizard as was Stuart McCue-Dick, the City Guard.  This production provided opportunities for all within the company to tell the story through drama, movement and music.  The children integrated well with the chorus and other principals and I should also not forget Toto, or should I say Alfie whose performance added to our enjoyment.  Special mention must be made to Michael McCrossan for providing creative scenic video and animation.
