On the second leg of its local tour Worcester G&S Society presented a ‘veritable vermouth of vocal vivacity’, to the delight of its audience, including a medley from ‘The Merry Widow’. Leading from the front was the most suitable of Music Hall Chairman, Colin Wilks, who provided the seamless links with lucidity!

Act 1 was set by the Seaside where amongst other numbers,  Jill Feeney  and Tim Goodall gave us amusing renditions of ‘She Sells Seashells’ and ‘I’m shy Mary Ellen, I’m Shy’ respectively, whilst Rachael Trimm sang ‘Burlington Bertie’ and Colin Potter recited ‘The Lion and Albert’ with confidence.  For sheer professionalism though, few can match Barry North as Max Miller and Marie Lloyd.

Act 2 commenced with a worthy medley from ‘The Merry Widow’ with particularly strong contributions from Mike Faulkner with ‘You’ll find me at Maxim’s’ and Rebecca Fearnley’s ‘Vilia’ sang with great power and feeling. They then came together with ‘Driving in the park with you’ which was a delight. Barry returned with his take on Frank Randall and although we may have heard some of the jokes before, that would not bother his loyal fans who enjoy his presence and great comedy timing, even before the punch-line. Other solo highlights were Nigel Smith’s ‘I’ll take you home again Kathleen’ and Lisa Adams’ ‘Roses of Piccardy’.

Director Christine Davies gave us a full evening of entertainment and although ‘less is often more’, there is no doubt the audience went home happy. Thank you for the invitation which was much appreciated.
