Lollipop’s musical theatre concert “This Is Me” was the first concert that I have been to in a long time and it most definitely did not disappoint. With music from Chicago, Billy Elliot and Into the Woods to name a few, the selection of songs bought a truer meaning to Lollipop and gave an insight into what Lollipop Theatre is all about and what it means to those who perform with them.

The production was fantastic, proving that Directors Holly Fields and Amanda Hall are able to get the best from their performers with ease. James Geary and Rebecca Fearnley showed that they had provided great Musical Direction and the choreography was a credit to Kerri-Anne Boyle. The simplicity of the stage really paved the way for the excellent wardrobe and costumes for each musical number.

The entire company most definitely performed amazingly and no matter the age of the performer, each one gave the production their all. A few of the highlights of the production for me were Nelly the Elephant, featuring a few of the little performers who pulled off the elephant costumes brilliantly and bought a lot of cuteness to the show, and One Voice, sang by Summer Geary and the Full Company, which the use of the torches lighting the performers took my breath away.

Act Two was beautifully done, with True Colours being performed by the Full Company bringing a tear to my eye. This song means a lot to me personally and it was a beautiful rendition and bought a happy meaning to the song for me. Another moment of beauty and again, showing exactly what Lollipop is about was No One Is Alone (Into The Woods) performed by the Full Company. It was so touching to see some members of the Production Crew on stage with the children singing with them, giving a true sense that those performers will never be alone as they have Lollipop.

The Finale was a tear jerker. From the fantastic performance to the change in costume, the true nature of the concert came together and showed exactly what Lollipop means to every person in that group. The surprise at the end, which must have taken a lot of courage from members of the group only provides more credit to those in Lollipop. I came away from the performance smiling and with tears in my eyes. I have never been so amazed and blown away by a group of people and I look forward to seeing them again.
