I have seen quite a few of Peter Gordon’s plays and this is certainly one of his better ones. I have found he takes quite a time to delineate his characters and this one was no exception. Liz Procter, Director, however, ensured that this strong cast had the audience’s attention from the outset. The set builders, yet again, have excelled and we were instantly transported to a caravan park, many of which I have frequented in my youth. There has been attention to detail re costumes ensuring they were appropriate to each character. Liz is fortunate to have such a talented cast with many experienced performers to work with and she has made the best use of the limited space available. Liz, a consummate actress herself, knows exactly what is required from each character and she has succeeded in bringing out all the little nuances, so often lacking in other productions I have seen. Some very funny pieces of dialogue were occasionally lost with a lack of volume but this was very rare and overall the diction was superb. Tonight we saw some excellent performances but David White as Neville was outstanding and he must have enjoyed playing this wonderful part holding the audience in the palm of his hand at every appearance. A real “tour de force”. All are to be congratulated on a splendid evening. Many thanks for your kind invitation and I look forward to the society’s 70th Anniversary celebrations next year.
