The chance to see Sir Arthur Sullivan’s musical folly ‘The Zoo’ was an opportunity not to be missed. Presented by this talented G & S Society it was a delight to watch. Principals and Chorus brought this lighthearted dig at Grand Opera and Victorian melodrama to life with tremendous enthusiasm.
The interval over the company transformed from Zoo visitors to Sailors, Sisters, Cousins and aunts with ease. This was as usual the high quality production we have come to expect from this company now in their 50th year.
Particular mention should be given to Robert Mead who played Captain Corcoran after playing Acsulapius Carboy in ‘The Zoo’. And to Phil Howard for his foppish Sir Joseph Porter K.C.B. having been Mr. Grinder in ‘The Zoo’ earlier in the evening.
The whole show was beautifully costumed. Well done again Savoyards and here’s to the next 50 years.
