This society only use a pianist to accompany the musical numbers and a special well done must go to Elaine Marsden who did a great job.
The set and lighting worked well with the story plot and limited space. The costumes were marvellous, adding plenty of colour to the proceedings.
The cast put in wonderful performances with lovely vocals and the delivery of lines both in song and dialogue was crystal clear.
Pam Bailey played Pheobe the lovelorn girl and daughter of Sergeant Meryll played by Peter Walker. The players in the main have to play younger than their years as with many societies who play G & S it is difficult to fill roles with young players. This Society is no different but the experienced players use this to their advantage.
All of the principals put in good performances and the collective voices of this society sounded great. The female principals of Pam Bailey and Janet Marshall who played Elsie Maynard sounded lovely and their contrasting tones worked in harmony together.
The male principals again had great voices but a couple were a little weak to carry to the back of the hall. However the star of the show for me was George Smith who played Wilfred Shadbolt. His comic timing and delivery was excellent and even his simple costume adjustments (one stocking rolling down) were meticulously executed only adding to the comedy.
The hall was packed and the cast played to an enthusiastic audience who were thoroughly entertained. A lovely show performed by a cast who really know how to do G & S justice. Well done.
