A performance by the Great Horton Singers is always enjoyable and tonight’s offering seemingly had just that little bit more.
The choir, as always, was dressed immaculately, in black dresses and silver scarves, men in black open neck shirts and trousers, good to see the choir growing with so many new members – keep up the enthusiasm and good work. Excellent piano accompaniment by Mike Gilroy and Jonathan Newell on percussion.
The show, again as always, was impeccably compered by John Mason, who must have spent quite some time researching interesting titbits about the songs or the composer and keeping the audience well amused inbetween items.
This year, slightly differently instead of the guest artist having a ‘spot’ in the evening, Kathryn Mitchell interspersed the choir numbers with her own very professional style and good showmanship, inviting the audience to join in and immediately had a very good interaction with both them and the choir.
The programme mainly consisted of more old style, well loved popular music from the 1950s to the present day from Gershwin to Abba finishing with a well rehearsed long selection from Les Miserables, the response to which nearly brought the house down.
Excellent hospitality and refreshments competed a lovely evening.
