This was the RSC version of The Wizard of Oz and a great success LIDOS made of it. The strong young cast worked well with their dual roles and got the right amount of humour and meaning from them. A lot of attention had obviously been paid to accents and they were kept up throughout the show. An appealing Dorothy (Kirsten Moore), accompanied by her show stealing dog Toto, sang and acted delightfully. There were some excellent dance numbers, some involving the whole company and these were very effective. Solo and chorus singing was good accompanied by the small sympathetic orchestra. Chorus costumes had been cleverly thought out and were very eye catching. The character costumes made just a suggestion of what they were meant to be and I have to say I missed a real Tin Man and Lion. The umbrella theme that ran through the show was an excellent idea and very well thought out and I loved the poppy scene. The set was extremely simple relying on lighting and effects to set the scene but I did miss the yellow brick road. Everyone in this show entered into the spirit of it and really enjoyed themselves and this came over to the audience.
