The Wizard of Oz, a timeless classic normally performed on a large scale and stage, how wrong can you be, all credit to the entire production team and cast alike for turning out such a fabulous show. It just goes to show what can be achieved with very limited space, sets and props. Having had the stage tour so to speak (which lasted all of maybe thirty seconds) I did wonder how this production was going to pan out. The sets were simple and colourful and very cleverly used by the cast. The musical combo under the direction of Liz Ince gave a good account of the score, which the principals and ensemble were able to follow in their stride. Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, farmhands and Dorothy gave very good performances of their individual roles and stayed in character throughout. There were excellent portrayals by The Scarecrow, who’s antics were mesmerising to watch, difficult to stay with the collapsed walking routine for the entire show but you did and you played the part just right well done. The Tin man with a beautiful voice and resplendent in your silvery grey outfit gave an excellent performance in this role. The Cowardly Lion completed the line-up of those seeking help from the wizard with the funniest of characterisation’s having the audience in stiches an excellent performance. The Munchkins and citizens of Oz all played their parts to bring this show to a well received climax thoroughly enjoyed by old and young alike in the audience
My sincere thanks for the hospitality extended to me during my first visit.
