We all had to walk along the Yellow Brick Road to get to our seats and then it was magic all the way! Hats off to this small theatrical company for tackling this very “big” show in a local hall and making a profound success of it all! This well loved story was all there, with an amazing and spectacular twister (brilliantly using back projection showing the actual stage characters, plus a cow, Miss Gultch, and farmhouse, flying all over the place) and taking us to the Land of Oz, where, subsequently, more brilliant back projection brought Emerald City, poppy fields, and Witch’s castle vividly to the stage! Then there were four superb leads in the main roles (plus a loveable Toto (Roxy, with wagging tail throughout) to bring this favourite story to life. Young Carmen Teppett, never off the stage, was a brilliant, sweet and demure Dorothy Gale; Darren Handy a great Scarecrow; Keith Spottiswoode a clanking Tin Man and, finally, Paul Sullivan as the gullible, but brave Cowardly Lion! Playing her first villainous role was Vicky Bowman as the nasty Miss Gultch/Witch, and how she revelled in her role, pitting her wits against the shimmering-looking Good Witch, Glinda, (Linzi Irvine) guiding Dorothy and her friends to reach the Mighty Wizard, superbly portrayed by young Craig Nicoll. Add a bunch of enthusiastic kids playing Munchkins, Snowmen, and Poppies, made this Christmas treat complete! The show was Oz-some!
