This was an excellent production from the society. Both junior and senior members were used to very good effect. The staging, using a double rotate and the special effects were brilliant, and Director Clark’s directorial vision is quite incredible, the transition from Kansas to Munchkinland was amazing,as was the disappearance of the wicked witch. Where did she go??.
There were some very good performances, Holly Goodger, gave a good portrayal of Dorothy, she sang and acted the role very well. Holly was well supported by Bethany Smith who was an excellent Scarecrow she showed very good stage craft, Luka Anderson as the Tin Man and Stuart Evans as the Cowardly Lion ,made a formidable team. All other parts were well played. Jennifer Todhunter, playing the Wicked Witch of the West, characterised the role perfectly. Good witch Glinda, Louise Dixon, the Wizard, Susan Houghton, and the other roles all added to the enjoyment. The choreography was well thought through,as it reflected the abilities of the performers at all times.
There was no live orchestra for the show, but the soundtrack was excellent, and very much in keeping with the performance. Congratulations again to Clark and MD Alex. The staging, using the double rotate was amazing. The rotate came beyond the prosceneium arch, on to the stage apron, and I know from experience how difficult it is to light this area, it is also difficult to get the sound right . This is no reflection on the company, the theatre’s facilities are not up to the required standard, to use this space effectively.
Congratulations to everyone concerned with the production, it was very evident how hard you all worked, and best wishes for your two performances today.
