This was based on the original story adapted by Limelight Scripts. The characters are all there. Dorothy was nicely played by Sarah Ruby, The Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man were as the original played by Gillian Hilder, Rebekah Holland and Sarah France, and a funny twist was Aunt Ella played as the dame of course by the favourite Frank Lea complete with his red wig, who flew off with Dorothy to the Land of Oz! Dorothy sang her song Over the Rainbow really well . There were two witches, the good and the bad and of course the Wizard played by Brian Annis. Other characters brought into the story were from various pantomimes and Elvis Presley appeared in the form of Glyn Bolton.
Having seen two productions of The Wizard of Oz in one week, this was certainly different and the cast certainly threw themselves into their roles. Mention must be made of the children, many very talented in this Society who played the munchkins, They obviously enjoyed themselves.
What makes this production different was the cast using the auditorium for their exits and entrances and we could see the close up of all the characters which t he children in the audience loved.
The highlight of this production was the set which is always excellent made by this Company and will no doubt be in the technical awards next year.
Well done to all concerned a very good production and I am sure was enjoyed by all.
