This show has always been a favourite and has recently gained new popularity after the TV show and its London revival.
Once again, North Staffs Operatic Society gave us a great evening’s entertainment with their slick production. It was well cast and excellently performed, supported by an excellent orchestra under Liz Talbot’s direction.
The show was well produced and moved along at a perfect pace with no unnecessary distractions. It was nicely costumed with adequate setting to support the excellent individual and ensemble performances.
A lot of the show’s success falls on the shoulders of Dorothy, who has a lot to live up to, and Lydia Hall fully met expectations, giving a lively and moving performance, with excellent singing.
The rest of the cast were equally impressive, bringing life to the characters both in their acting and singing. Each of them had to perform dual roles first in Kansas and then in Oz, and they accomplished them superbly.
This review would also be not be complete without a special mention for Dorothy’s wonderful dog Toto, who behaved impeccably, and excellently complimented all the talented performers.
The company, both youth and adult, also played other roles admirably adding greatly to the whole show.
Thank you all for your warm welcome and excellent hospitality. As always, North Staffs have come up with the goods.
