A very different type of show for CWAGMS but very well acted, directed and presented.
Darrell Burns led the company from the start as Darryl Van Horne. Who is he really? Darrell fell naturally into the role and what a wonderful voice. He was well supported by Sue Samuel (Alex Spofford), Charlotte Chambers (Jane Smart) and Ellen Nicholls (Sukie Rougemount) who really worked well as a team. A lot of rehearsals must have gone into getting the company to this very high standard. The trio of ladies sang at the end of Act1 ‘I Wish I May’, which was a joy to listen to. Well sung and with great harmonies. Add to the fact that while they were singing they were flying. It really looked good.
Sammi Thomas and Andrew Smith as Jennifer Gabriel and Michael Spofford played the young romantic interest in the show and really worked and sang well together. Special mention must go to Sharron Burns and Mark Atherton as Felicia and her hen pecked husband Clyde, who is having an affair with Sukie. Felicia is Chairperson of the Eastwick Preservation Society; in fact she thinks she is the first lady of Eastwick. A wonderful role. There was some nice confident singing from Charlotte Gough (Little Girl).
The cast coped well with the script and score and the chorus gave good support to the principals.
The costumes looked good and the set fitted the stage well. This show is not easy, musically, but the orchestra, under the direction of Brian Hirst really sounded good and rounded.
Well done to you all. This was another success for CWAGMS.
