My first visit to this very talented society and it will not be my last. This story, written by Kenneth Grahame and adapted by Mike Kenny, is always a firm family favourite and SSA Drama did it proud.
Director Chris Cooper ensured that nothing was left to chance and this was noticed by the audience. The set was well designed and fitted well into the limited space, and the lighting really made some parts of it stand out. Chris also made good use of props, instead of a car he had a walking frame with a horn and got Toad to push it around.
Emma Doran as Ratty could not have been more precise and was well cast to play opposite Erin Craddock as Mole who opened the story and introduced us to all the characters in the production. Leading the trio was Ricardo Alexander as Toad. He had a great rapport with the audience and great energy which made him an extroverted character that had some good comedy moments.
Good performances also came from Rachel Pinwell as Badger who set the tone as the old and wiser character in the production, and Harvey Grant as Chief Weasel and Otter. I also enjoyed the performances of the Horse, Jen Alton and Liberty Severn.
The costumes were well designed, I enjoyed seeing the horses in tap shoes and mole wearing a torch on her head.
A great evenings entertainment.
