This show starts with a wedding and closes with one. What happens in between takes us on a nostalgic journey back to the 80’s when things were bright, clothes colourful and music loud.

We meet the principal girl and boy almost at once, both in love but not with each other. They were played with enthusiasm and style by Grant Roach (Robbie) and Elaine Scougal (Julia).  Their singing suited each other and their ‘If I Told You’ duet was memorable. Add to this talented pair we have a number of supporting principals, the feisty Holly played by Rennie Adam, the chancer band member Sammy (Gavin Burton), Carnousie’s Boy George (Craig Douris), faithless Linda (Kerry Mitchell), Angie the caring relative (Karen Fleming) and last but no means least the hilarious Rosie (Liz Pardoe), Granny to Robbie, who still ‘gets it on’. What a well-chosen bunch each playing their roles with humour and class.

The ‘Baddie’ Glen (Gary Cavanagh) was well portrayed with the right amount of sleaze and nastiness ensuring we all wanted Robbie to come out on top.

The rest of the company certainly completed and complimented the principals with well-rehearsed and choreographed dance numbers and carefully directed funny scenes. I especially enjoyed the bar scene with the men and Rosie’s and George’s number ‘Move That Thang’.

The set was effective for the space available and was well handled by the ‘Back stage Boys’ (and girls). The band was under the experienced baton of Paul Clancy and the Direction and Production was managed by the talented team of John White and Kevin Smith.

As always Carnoustie welcomed me warmly with hospitality and a chance to meet everyone backstage. Thank you for my invite and I am looking forward to more productions from this talented company.
