A huge cast from small children through to teenagers and adults who gave a great show full of energy and fun.
Heading up the cast as principals were Adam Overall as Robbie, Abigail Overall as Julia,Martin Smith as Sammy, Emma Theedom as Holly,Adam Littlewood as Glen and Robyn Dodd as Linda. All these named had great stage presence and were excellent in their respective characters. Many more smaller character parts also did really well, far too many to mention all by name, but all very important in the success of the show.
In all of the very varied characters there was confidence with well cast roles.
Mostly the singing voices were strong and well projected. At times I felt the sound system was loud and needed adjusting to give a softer sound balance with soloists. This needs to be listened to at the dress rehearsal from the back of the theatre. Having said this the sound changes significantly when a full audience are there.
The general singing from the company was good, and everyone on stage looked as if they were enjoying it which came across to the audience
I liked the set generally, but it did take rather a long time to change from scene to scene and more stage crew would have helped when lots of changes on stage is needed. Cast can also help by removing and bringing props on to make the changes slicker.
The band were excellent and backed the singers well. Playing for a musical show is demanding for the musicians and they all did really well picking up with musical numbers.
I like cover music to be played between scenes as this gives the audience a sense of what is to come rather than just waiting for something to happen. Music was played by the band here and there but not between all scenes? In some of the more demanding set changes if the MD can see what is happening on stage the band can take direction and play to cover set changes longer if needed.
Lighting was good but awareness of changes in scenes could have been tighter with some of the lighting on stage.
The costumes for this show were very varied and such a lot for the Wardrobe team to cope with. Please check before a show that all the costumes are well presented .I think Mandy and team did a great job here.
All in all for your second full musical it was a terrific achievement and Abigail and the production team are to be congratulated on all their hard work and efforts.
This was my first time to review this society for NODA ( National Operatic & Dramatic Association) as the Representative for this company and I feel there is a lot more to come from this talented group.
It was good to meet up with some members and I look forward to seeing your next production in due course.Congratulations to all on stage and also all the backstage crew who are very important to the success.
