~~It was so good to see Sutton Arts Theatre have a packed audience for this fast moving show, full of enthusiasm and lively songs. When moving into the auditorium the audience were greeted to a wide-open stage with the orchestra at the rear, with eight large monitors. I was wondering where all the set was, but, I needn’t have been worried. The Sutton Arts set building team had used every inch of the available space with the sets tucked away and ready at a moments notice to be placed into position by the cast.
And what a cast they were. Tim Gough led the cast as ‘The Wedding Singer’ Robbie Hart. He had a great voice that wowed the audience. Gemma Smyth as Julia was a joy to watch and listen to. After a series of events it took a while for them to get together, but they did.
Adding to Robbie’s voice were his group, George (Chris Commander) and Sammy (Robbie Newton). They had great stage presence. Sammy is the ex of Julia’s cousin played by Phebe Jackson. A great voice. Paul Atkins, the guy that you want to punch, played Julia’s boyfriend.
Mavis Atkins had a great cameo role as Rosie. Even though she was loosing her voice she still was a great asset to the production.
Director Dexter Whitehead and his assistant Emily Armstrong did a first class job with the production. I look forward to their next.
