The opening number exploded on to the stage and the show never looked back.  This show was expertly choreographed and the discipline and energy of the cast were impressive. Although the musical numbers were mostly unknown to this reviewer, their production and delivery furthered the show’s story of a band singer at weddings trying to create his own bit of magic, failing then finding his own good girl at the end. Individual performances exuded energy too. The effective leads of Iain Davidson as wedding singer Robbie and Stephanie Duncan as naïve and earnest Julie were well matched. Both gave their all, were strong in characterisation, taking the audience with them in the twists of their relationships, and sang beautifully harmoniously in their duets.  Kenny Walker as George, band member, gave the part all the humorous thrusts the part demanded, while other bandmate Sammy played by Michael Coyne, lived up to the role of confidant as his own love life faltered. Shelley Procek revelled in the role of Holly, engineering dates, matchmaking and giving songs like ‘Saturday Night in the City’ and ‘Move that Thong’ verve and power. Then taking the audience by storm Joyce Gallacher as Grandma Rosie amazed as she sang, kicked, contorted and gyrated with ‘shocking’ success. Also displaying their talents were Kirsty Meikle in her villainous role as jilt and vamp Linda, Maurice Pryke as the ruthless business womaniser Glen and Katie Gardiner as concerned Mother Angie. Of note were the number of characters and costume changes David Young achieved - must have been exhausting. The costumes for all the weddings looked good and those for the finale suited the energies expended. The production was smooth, including a sparky kiss and a quivering bed, and delivered humour and an up to date feel to the whole show. Clever lighting and set piece endings of songs demanded applause. A combination of talented cast and production officials made this performance high quality indeed. Congratulations to all.
