The Wedding Singer is based on a film written by Tim Herlihy with music by Matthew Sklar and Lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The musical revolves around Robbie, who is a Wedding Singer, his failed relationship with his fiancée and his romance with new love, Julia …

The director, Sarah Reynolds has done a very good job, the musical had great pace and was very well staged. The musical direction from Barbara Hockey was excellent and the company was supported by a first-class eight-piece band. The choreography from Mary Hollands was both imaginative and energetic with some super routines.

There was a large principal line-up who all gave excellent performances. Daniel Fortune was outstanding as Robbie, his comic timing was superb and his singing was a joy to listen to. Samantha Wiles played the role of Julia beautifully and had an excellent voice too. Yvette Bougourd gave a strong and confidant performance as Holly. Ashley Malcolmson gave a very good comic performance as Sammy. Martin Brown as George was very funny and gave a performance which I enjoyed very much. There was very good character acting from Alice Lupon as Rosie. Glen Guglia was very well played by Jake Turner. Samantha Mills showed great comedy as Linda. There were very notable performances from Heidi Coleman as Angie, Stephen Cox as Billy Idol/David Fonda, Phil Mills as Ronald Regan/Bum, Jenny Wallace as Tina Turner, Belinda Stewart as Imelda Marcos, Stacey Clarke as Cyndi Lauper, Keely-Beth James as Crystal and a very promising performance from Reece Yarnold as Mookie/Ricky. The principals were supported by a superb ensemble. Well done to all the cast.

The set for the show was very good and was used and managed well. The props were excellent as were the costumes. The lighting and sound quality was mostly very good throughout the show. This was an excellent opening night with no obvious problems. Congratulations to the Theats for a wonderful evening full of hilarious humour, energy and enthusiasm. The Wedding Singer was a real feel good show!
