'The Wedding Singer' like the film starring Adam Sandler, is a celebration of the 80's when hair was big, and tells the story of 'wannabe' rock star Wedding Singer Robbie Hart (Sam Turner) who is jilted at the alter and then loses his heart to watress Julia Sullivan (Charley Branson) but unfortunately she is engaged to someone else.
In their lead roles both Sam and Charley gave very believable performances, sang and acted well, and were well cast.
The supporting cast members for this show were very strong. Keith Parry aand Ricardo Alexander as Robbie's bandmates Sammy and George, gave good comedic support and contrast to the leading man. Steve Hayes as Glen Guglia, gave an excellent portayal of the money-focused businessman engaged to Julia. Nicki Willetts as Holly sang well and gave her character a real personality. Ruth Bishop as Grandma Rose was just a joy to watch with her 'rap' delighting the audience. Sue Lyons also gave a good portayal as Linda, Robbie's estranged fiancee, and she made her a character you love to hate.
The chorus gave good support but I must mention the very funny group of impersonators who made an apperance in the show, very well done. Congratulations also for the attention to detail with all of the costumes.
The seven member band were very good and complemented the performers, never over powering them and led by Mel O'Donnell. Sarah Golby did a good job with the cherography whilst Dani Branson's direction ensured that the whole production kept moving at a pace. The set looked good and scene changes were slick.
Congratultions to all involved for a slick production which oozed energy.
