This was a fast paced, slick production featuring some excellent singing and energetic dance routines of which the production team should be justly proud.
As you would expect from the title the character of the wedding singer (Robbie Hart) is featured in many of the musical numbers and Adam Gregory was certainly equal to the task as was the delightful Nikki Downs (Julia Sullivan) as their relationship developed. There was some very strong support from Will Lock (Sammy) and Danny Morris (George) as the other members of Robbie’s band. Jenny Barlow-Jennings (Holly) and Michelle Gregory (Linda) provided well timed obstacles to the blossoming romance as the former girl friends of Sammy and Robbie. Chris Kimpton was very effective as the fiancée of Julia showing that his only love was that of money. These intriguing relationships were well balanced with motherly support from Debbie Gill (Mrs Sullivan) and some excellent comedy from Ang Goodwin (Grandma Rosie). The acting throughout was impressive and every member of the chorus was involved in the action either by facial expressions or body language and should be congratulated for that.
The performing area was cleverly used with props and scenery moving on and off the stage quickly and efficiently by a well organised stage crew and cast members. I liked the use of the bar by Sammy and the men’s chorus.
The support from the band was top class and the technical staff made sure that the balance between musicians and singers was never a problem. Together with some effective lighting and costumes this was a very good production. Well done to everyone involved!
