Set in the 1980s, Robbie Hart is 'The Wedding Singer' who is about to be married to his long term girlfriend Linda but she dumps him at the altar on the basis that she wants to be the wife of a rock star not a wedding singer. This romantic comedy has many twists and as we have come to expect, boy meets girl and everyone ends up with the correct partner. Chris Scougal dramatised the title role as Robbie extremely well demonstrating his great vocal ability in the required 1980s style. Laura Killen ably played the wayward fiancée Linda and David O’Brien made a great Glen Guglia who had the reputation for cheating on Julia. Nicole Black provided a flawless performance as Julia Sullivan who was completely content when she eventually became the wife of The Wedding Singer. Graeme Black and Greg McVicar provided great support as Sammy and the hilariously funny and rather camp George, Robbie’s band mates, as did Shelley Bruin and Fiona Cowie who played Holly and Angie. Lesley Cochrane also gave a great amusing performance as Gramdma Rosie. As a new musical to the amateur theatre, I felt the company have to be commended for trying something completely new. Although the musical numbers we not well known they were delivered with great energy and in the style of the era.
